Gloucestershire Engineering Training has been providing work-based learning in engineering for 40 years. We train apprentices in Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance, Welding & Fabrication and also offer a dual skill programme for those employers who require multi-skilled individuals.

We are the only training facility in the County that is run by the Manufacturing & Engineering industry for the Engineering Industry. We currently provide training services to the biggest engineering and manufacturing organisations within Gloucestershire across a diverse range of engineering specialisms from aeronautical to intelligent communication systems; from the production of drill bits to credit cards.

We provide learners with the basic underpinning knowledge and skills required across all facets of engineering within their first year of training, and then focus on their chosen career pathway or specialism once the learners have returned to their employer's premises.

We strongly encourage involvement from the employer throughout their programmes and training services to ensure the best possible rate of satisfaction and value for money. To find out the role of an employer within the apprenticeship programme please click here.

Company Overview

Gloucestershire Engineering Training is a very unique engineering training association. It has charitable status and is owned and managed by its member companies. Senior representatives from a range of the member companies make up the organisation's Management Board who meet on a quarterly basis to review the operational and financial progress of the organisation at a strategic level. Gloucestershire Engineering Training has been providing work-based learning in engineering for learners from member companies for 40 years. We train apprentices in both Mechanical and Electrical disciplines and also offer a dual skill program for those employers who require multi-skilled individuals.

We also provide a range of additional tailor made training programs and services.

The engineering training centre is based on Corinium Avenue, Barnwood, and boasts just short of 22,000 square foot of workshop space and classrooms equipped with a variety of traditional machinery and the latest technology. Learners undertake the first year off-the-job element of their apprenticeship program at the training centre which can accommodate up to 130 apprentices in any one intake. Learners undertake a mixture of practical and academic learning and experience both off and on-the-job learning.

The centre is managed by Chief Executive Officer, Linsey Temple, who reports directly to the Board Of Directors.

Member Company Information

As a Charity, Gloucestershire Engineering Training is in business to deliver training and services to the meet the needs of its member companies. Senior representatives from a range of member companies make up organisation's Management Board. These individuals play a vital role in influencing and shaping the future of the organisation whilst ensuring that the training and services provided are truly reflective of the business needs and demands.

Gloucestershire Engineering Training currently provides training services to the biggest engineering and manufacturing organisations within Gloucestershire across a diverse range of engineering specialisms from aeronautical to intelligent communication systems; from the production of drill bits to credit cards.

We are able to offer programs to such a wide range of specialisms, by providing learners with the basic underpinning knowledge and skills required across all facets of engineering within their first year of training, and then focusing on their chosen career pathway or specialism once the learners have returned the their employers premises.

Gloucestershire Engineering Training strongly encourages involvement from the employer throughout all of their programs and training services to ensure the best possible rate of satisfaction and value for money.

Getting to the Centre

From the North

Exit the M5 at junction 11a and take the 4th exit at the round about and re-join the A417. Take the second exit at the first round about, the second exit at the second round about and the 4th exit at the 3rd round about. As you come up this dual carriage way, you will see the entrance into Barnwood Point on the left hand side. You will need to turn immediately left as you enter the site and follow the road down – we are the last building on the right hand side.

From the South

Gary Miller

Gary Miller

Chair

Gary Miller is the Training and Development Manager at Delphi Diesel Systems Ltd. Delphi UK's Stonehouse facility specialises in high-precision machining to sub-micron tolerances in addition to testing and assembly. Products produced in the UK include diesel fuel injectors for light, medium and heavy duty applications.

Gary was appointed a Director in 2015.

Tristram Southgate

Vice Chair

Tristram is the Managing Director of Majorlift Hydraulic Equipment Limited, an SME based in Wickwar, Gloucestershire. Majorlift design and manufacture a range of hydraulic equipment used in the testing and servicing of automotive, aerospace and rail vehicles and sell around the globe.

Tristram was appointed a Director in June 2018.

Gwyn Jones

Director

Gwyn Jones is the HR Manager for Reinshaw PLC based in New Mills, Wotton Under Edge. Reinshaw is a global company with core skills in measurement, motion control, spectroscopy and precision machining. Their products are used for applications as diverse as machine tool automation, co-ordinate measurement, Raman spectroscopy, machine callibration, position feedback, CAD/CAM dentistry, stereo-static neurosurgery and medical diagnosis.

Gwyn was appointed a Director in 1990.

Jill Brearley

Director

Jill Brearley is the HR Manager at ABB LImited based in Stonehouse. ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. ABB in the UK operates from more than 20 locations nationally and employer around 2,300 people. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employer about 117,000 people.


Jill was appointed a Director in 1991.


Tony Powell

Director

Tony has worked for Nortim Tools Limited for over 30 years and became the Owner and Managing Director 6 years ago.

Nortim is a family run business which was established in 1971 supplying a range of products to a variety of customers both in the UK and worldwide.

Tony was appointed a Director in February 2019.

Anna Hollis

Director

Anna is the HR Manager – Talent at Kohler Mira, based in Cheltenham. Kohler Mira is made up of 3 market leading bathroom brands – Mira Showers, Rada and Kohler UK, and has been established for over 90 years. The company is part of Kohler Co., a global manufacturer of kitchen and bathroom products, hospitality and power, with over 33,000 employees across 6 continents.

Anna has experience of leading Talent and Early Careers strategy, including STEM outreach across the UK and expertise in global talent projects. Her background encompasses both the private and not for profit sectors, including operational management and quality assurance.

Anna was appointed a Director in February 2019.

Arren Kinder

Director

Arren is the Operations Director at Safran Landing Systems MRO site in Gloucester.

Safran Landing Systems is the world leader in aircraft landing and braking systems and part of the Safran Group which has over 58,000 employees in 30 different countries.

Arren has experience of Business Transformation, Lean Sigma and Supply Chain Management and has previously worked globally prior to his current Operational role in the UK facility which specialises in the Repair and Overhaul of Civil and Military Landing Gears and Hydraulic Equipment.

Arren was appointed a Director in July 2019.

Ian Henderson

Director

In 1999 Ian began working for Industrial Gaskets, Ross on Wye (Part of the Dowty/TI Group) as a Production Engineer and Toolroom Manager. The company was subsequently sold to Smiths Industries and then Trelleborg. Ian has been responsible for the transfer of factories within Trelleborg, to and from Tewkesbury, Scandinavia, Europe, the Far East and the Americas, supporting Processes and Production Engineering in Tewkesbury and around the globe.

As part of the Senior Management Team in Tewkesbury Ian took on the Engineering Manager role in 2012 and is currently responsible for Process and Production Engineering, New Process Developments, Equipment Investments and Apprentice Development, along with a team of Production Engineers and Process Technicians.

Ian became a Director in October 2019.

Guy Biggin

Independent Director

Guy Biggin is a Partner at a national firm of chartered accountants, Crowe Clark Whitehill. Guy works exclusively with educational and charitable organisations. He is based in Cheltenham and has considerable experience in audit and risk management as well as governance, trading activities, fundraising and other issues. Guy is a member of the Institute of Risk Management and sits on their Charity Special Interest Group.

Guy was appointed in February 2015.
