What you will learn

During the course you will learn the following in compliance with HSG17:

  • Hazards and risks from the use of abrasive wheels and the precautions needed.
  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels with their type, size and operating speed. 
  • How to store, handle and transport abrasive wheels. 
  • Mount wheels on pedestal and surface grinders.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of HSE HSG17 guidelines for abrasive wheels. 
  • Select and use appropriate PPE. 
  • Properly adjust guards and tool rests as appropriate. 
  • Understand the importance of RPM in relation to wheel maximum permitted RPM.
  • Understand the function of flanges, blotters, bushes, arbors and nuts used to mount wheels. 
  • Balancing, trueing and dressing wheels.

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone who wants to learn basic theoretical and practical skills while using abrasive wheels and machinery. The course is an ideal starting point for anyone whose role may involve abrasive wheels in the workplace or as a refresher for experienced workers.

Duration

½ day theory and ½ day practical.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications required. However, we do recommend regular refreshing and updating of training.

Location

Gloucestershire Engineering Training, Barnwood Point, Gloucester or customers' workplace for relevance.

Cost

£1200 per group (maximum of 5 delegates)

Additional travelling costs may apply for in-company training.
