What you will learn

During the course, you will learn the following for Manual Lathes:

  • Health and Safety, awareness of risks and safe operating procedures.
  • Appropriate PPE and Safe Working Techniques
  • Components of the machines and controls. 
  • Work holding with 3 Jaw and 4 Jaw chucks.
  • Conventional cutting techniques, OD turning, drilling, boring, parting off, forming and generating. 
  • Inspection of machined components.
  • Use of coolant
  • Reinstating machine after use.

Benefits/Progression

Upon completing the course successfully, you will have the basic knowledge required to set up Lathes safely and carry out common machining tasks. 

This is an introductory course and provides the fundamental health and safety awareness and basic machine operation only. 

Further training and supervision is required until qualification.

Duration

4 ½ days continuous or as 5 days of day release.

Monday to Thursday - 8:30 to 16:00

Friday - 8:30-12:00

No formal qualifications required.

Location

Gloucestershire Engineering Training, Barnwood Point, Gloucester or at company premises.

Cost

£5400 per group, maximum of delegates.
